Dork Memories
Positively brilliant! Stephen Lynch's ode to Dungeons & Dragons. Made me think of The Gamers by Dead Gentlemen Productions.
Perhaps I'm an aberration <.< (or maybe just lucky), because my RPG experiences buck the women-less stereotype of gaming geekdom. There have almost always been multiple girl gamers in my game groups. Woot! Sure, there were the rare cases of GM girlfriends, who leveraged their RL relationships to net in-game benefits, but those were thankfully the exceptions. The majority of my girl gamer friends are awesome, wicked, imaginative, even evil role-players. :)
Not sure exactly why I've been lucky in this, but I'm happy for it. Hmm... *theorizes wildly* ...maybe it's me. Yeah! Maybe I'm just that hawt... or something... and they just can't help but flock to my side! :P (I'll go with that.) Well whether or not I am, I know some of them certainly are! Lucky gamer me!

And Low Their Minds Were As Gunpowder
I have a son. He found this game. He draws scenes that include stick figures made of wax. When he gets bored with them, he fills their heads with gunpowder and gives them cigarette torches. As their god, he is so cruel.

Lucky Banana!
Bananas have five sides, but I just found one that has only four. Where did the fifth side go? I ate it. It was still delicious despite its missing side. I wonder if four-sided bananas are like a four-leaf clovers: lucky! Perhaps I'll play the lotto tomorrow. :P

What's In a Word?
You can now double-click any word on my main page to have it defined and translated by Webster's Online Dictionary. [Note: Relevant html is at the bottom of their page below "Also..."].
I must disclaim that I have no idea if there is a way to select the language into which said feature will translate double-clicked words. So, call this a noble experiment.
I would offer you a Babel Fish for your ear, but its real functionality is limited at best, and besides, sharing a Babel Fish just seems unsanitary. :P

How to Be a Tree
My daughter's impression of a tree:
- Stand up and place your feet together to form a tree trunk with your body.
- Stretch out your arms to forms tree branches.
- Rock from side to side at the waist to sway in the breeze.
- Meow like a cat.
Not sure why trees meow. Perhaps that's the sound they make when a cat is caught in their branches? And lastly...
- The more people look strangely at you, increase the speed of your swaying and meow louder.
Just thought I'd share.
[Psst: See the dancer in the tree?]

A Priest, a Hunter, and a Mage Walk into a Bar...
Flintlocke's Guide to Azeroth is a weekly serial comic published on GameSpy.com. I've known about it for some time, but never really looked too closely at it until tonight... when my love experienced near apoplexy from laughter at its latest storyline. It's set in the World of Warcraft, but you needn't be familiar with the game to find much of it humorous.

Destroy the 80's!
Ok this is surely old, but I just discovered it today. And when I watch it, I think fondly of certain friends who were (and I'm reasonably certain still are) avid fans of the 1980's TV show: The A-Team.
It's the music video for "Bad Bad Man" by (pro wrestler) John Cena and (rapper) Tha Trademarc, featuring (rapper) Bumpy Knuckles (aka Freddie Foxxx), with special guest appearance by (actor) Gary Coleman! Go Gary! Mwahahaha!

Make a Save Versus...
I've played RPGs since grade school, and have always been reluctant to openly discuss RP in public places. It's one of those things that in my experience many people just don't understand. As a result I have hidden my passion for RP from the world at large opting instead to reveal it to only a select few: my closest friends... and anyone else who happens to be online on my WoW RP server of choice, or (in the past) happened to be present at any of the few gaming conventions I have attended -- but these are strength-in-numbers exceptions so they don't count. Ultimately, I am a closet gamer; a freak in sheep's clothing blending in among the masses.
My son is far less inhibited. Not a single conversation with him in private or public is devoid of some reference to an RPG (as of late computer-based RPGs). Having him around draws the RP geek out of my love who will also happily go on and on about forum boards, character builds, quest paths, and more. Some days it seems it is all they/we talk about.
In their enthusiasm, they can become quite oblivious to my discomfort with discussing such things in public; especially when they insist on including me in these conversations. But that's just me. I'm a fly-under-the-wire kind of person. I move through life mostly unnoticed; a social chameleon. (At least the "real me" is.) When all is said and done, I will in the end be at best historically insignificant; the poetry of my life left for the most part unpublished. (Ooo, how tragic! :P)
But then I see this and I think, "Holy shit! At least I was never that big a loser!" (Ok, actually I pray I never was! Hehe) It's actually a clip from Reno 911, a police reality show parody and it's too funny.
Assignment time, kiddies: Watch the clip and enjoy. And while your watching, ask yourself, "Why am I laughing?" Is it:
(a) I'm laughing because... I don't "get" gamers and this guy is a real loser?
(b) I'm laughing because... I understand Magic Missiles and Savings Throws, and while this guy is still a loser, I am reminded that I need to start planning my new costume for Ren Faire this Fall? *winks*
(c) I'm not laughing because... this is serious stuff. That cop had no right to introduce a gun in a fantasy setting!
If your answer is (c) then... I envy you. You have found a special place in which to enjoy being the you you dream yourself to be. Also, you need to fucking relax, and maybe get out more, because in the end everything is just a game.
Play nice.

Bestiality Killed My Laptop
My laptop is dead, tot, caput. No matter how you define death, my laptop is the very embodiment of your prefered spectre. And bestiality killed it. Well that or Violent Femmes, I can't be sure. Perhaps there was some collusion there. Anything's possible but I for one lean towards bestiality as the perpetrator of its demise.
So I am chatting with my dear friend The Spectacled Pixie when one of those tangental threads of thought that invariably weave their way into a conversation manifests: and the word "bestiality" pops into the chat window... at which point Trillian immediately alerts me that Windows is in the process of crashing and that it is shutting down to protect itself from being destroyed: a rather ominous omen to say the least. Did it foresee something I did not? It did, and in the instant that it took me to realize this, it was over.
Windows had died.
The only thing new to the hard drive that day had been a passel of Violent Femmes tracks, and of course, the use of the word "bestiality" in a chat window. Other than that it had been a typical day of deleting unread email, surfing pictures of perverse cat carriers, professions of our mutual, undying love for Cream of Wheat (I really must try it with chocolate chips sometime), and discussions of online game forums.
Come to think of it, there was also mention of some 5000 flatulant dragons baking the Earth. Perhaps they were the true culprits here. I mean, even a dragon could get nervous when the word "bestiality" pops up in a chat window, couldn't it?

Happy New Year!
I for one am looking forward to the new year ahead. With the Vernal Equinox come and gone -- Oh by the way, Happy Ostara (belated) to you! I meant to post something on Ostara, but true to form I missed it. Maybe I'll fold time and space and retro-post something and pretend it was there all along. I can do that you know. I have the power!!! *gesticulates wildly in a time-bending, pseudo martial artsy display of… well… time-bending, pseudo martial artsy power* Yeah!!! But I digress. With the Vernal Equinox come and gone Spring is in the air and a new year is upon us. At least that would be the case if this was April 1, 1563. Ah, the good old days, back before Pope Greg 13 decided to keep a kickin' Xmas party going and have "them" move up New Years to January 1. (You know, that means that 1563 was only eight months long.) Anyway, I think it's high time somebody steps up and honours the traditions of olde -- you know, the good honest, wholesome traditions that don't make a bit of difference -- and declares, "Happy New Year!" on its proper day! If that makes me a fool then so be it, I am a Fool! Maybe even a dancin' fool! Peace out. Happy New Years.
